Vortex of Freedom Archives – September 2004

Vol. 1 No. 2 September 2004

Three Years Later

Nineteen Islamic men on a suicide mission hijacked four planes and slammed the planes into buildings. They had a severe hatred for the United States. This is what the government told us.

The majority of Islamic suicide bombers are poor and uneducated. None of the alleged hijackers was poor and at least a few of them held degrees.

It seemed a bit strange that all the military talking heads said that Osama bin Laden was to blame immediately after the collapse of the buildings. We have supposedly been trying to capture Bin Laden for years prior to September 11 2001. Officials in other countries were ready to hand him over to the United States twice during the Clinton administration.

The reason why we have not captured bin Laden is because he is still a CIA operative. A country with the intelligence capabilities like the United States can find anybody if they really wanted to. The United States helped planned the attacks.

The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan during the Cold War. The CIA trained Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda to fend off the Soviets. The invasion was unsuccessful mostly because the resistance was greater than the Soviets had anticipated.

The French newspaper Le Figaro reported that Osama bin Laden sought medical attention at a U.S. military hospital in Dubai. This visit was in August 2001.

We are fighting in Afghanistan, but we have not found Osama bin Laden. We are fighting in Iraq, but we have not found weapons of mass destruction. We are still in Bosnia. Do not expect to get out of any of these countries soon.

Questions remain unanswered from September 11. Why did the government heavily guard the rubble at Ground Zero? Why did they swiftly haul the debris to landfills? Why is security at our borders, our shipyards, and out airports lax after foreigners have attacked us? Why did we invade Iraq? Why did President Bush stay in the classroom when Andrew Card whispered to him that we were under attack? Why were all the talking heads immediately able to conclude that the attacks were the works of Osama bin Laden? The Bush administration has a lot of explaining to do and many questions to answer.

Stealing Political Ideology

The Republicans recently accused John Kerry of stealing a quote that Vice President Dick Cheney used in the 2000 Republican Convention. It eluded them; however, that President Bush stole the concept of closing bases in Germany and Korea from the Libertarian Party.

This is not the first time Bush has stolen Libertarian ideology. Bush ran for President in 2000 with the notion of “smaller government.” Bush never carried through with the “smaller government” concept. He probably will not be in any hurry to withdraw the troops either.

Vortex of Freedom encourages the Bush campaign to steal all of the Libertarian Party positions on the condition that he implements those ideas.

Did We Win the Cold War?

The legacy of Ronald Reagan was that he was largely responsible for ending the Cold War and for telling Mikhail Gorbachev to “Tear down that wall.” In the years that followed, the Soviet Union collapsed and many of the former Soviet satellites now have democracies.

The sick irony is while these countries are now enjoying freedom, the United States has adopted many of the old Soviet-style laws. Many communities have hidden cameras planted in traffic lights so that they can ticket traffic violators. The police can now seize property without a search warrant if drug trafficking is suspected. This has already imprisoned innocent people.

The Internal Revenue System has used Gestapo-style tactics on citizens whom they claim have not paid taxes. They have no qualms with throwing innocent people in jail and making them prove their innocence. The powers of The Patriot Act are not limited to deterring terrorists. The “Trap and Trace” portion of the Act pertains to common crimes and makes it easier for law enforcement to tap phones of common Americans.

The Swift Boat Distraction

The reason why talk radio has been hammering away at John Kerry’s record in Vietnam is twofold: The first reason is that the diversion does the Republicans a favor by taking focus off the war in Iraq and off recent unfavorable economic news. Unemployment is rising, more people live in poverty, and gas prices are about to rise again.

The Democrats are also benefiting from this tactic. The Swift Boat story is making people forget that Kerry has never proposed significant legislation in his nineteen years of service in the Senate. John Edwards is as popular in his state of North Carolina as a New Yorker.

The media would like us to think that Bush and Kerry are the only candidates running for president. Neither Bush nor Kerry wants to debate Mike Badnarik, Dave Cobb, Ralph Nader, or any other candidate for president. Unfortunately, this means the two worst candidates are the only two getting attention, and Americans will get four more years of policies detrimental to America’s future.

Abolish Your DMV

Why do states have a Department of Motor Vehicles? Almost everybody has a driver’s license. In addition, many of the people who have a suspended license either have a court order, which allows them to drive to work or give no credence to the fact that their license is suspended, and they drive regardless.

The only purpose of a Department of Motor Vehicles is to generate revenue for the state. There are several laws already in place pertaining to what a driver can and cannot do.

The only purpose of the Department of Motor Vehicles is to collect money from people who want to drive. Bureaucratic fees and mandating auto insurance make driving financially impossible for the poor and lower middle-class.

By abolishing the Department of Motor Vehicles and maintaining the laws on the road, we can maintain road safety while saving taxpayers and drivers a lot of money.

Anarchy vs. Libertarianism

The dictionary states “Anarchy” as either the absence of government or political disorder. Libertarianism is the belief of full individual thought and action.

Libertarians believe in a limited form of government. The purpose of government is to protect our rights. The basic philosophy is “No harm, no foul.” If you are not bothering anybody, then government should leave you alone.

Americans suffer from the “Gladys Kravitz” mentality. Gladys Kravitz was the nosy neighbor on “Bewitched” who spent a lot of her free time spying on Samantha Stevens. Gladys bugged her husband every time Samantha performed witchcraft. Samantha never performed witchcraft on Gladys, yet Gladys felt obligated to scout the Stevens’s property.

Anarchists are in New York City for the Republican National Convention. The anarchists plan to throw rocks into windows, shoot horses with slingshots, and other acts of violence. Vortex of Freedom does not condone these actions. Anybody who causes harm to a person, animal, or property is a criminal and has to take responsibilities for his or her actions. Anybody who harms another person or one’s property has to be liable.

Observations

If corporations really wanted to maximize profits, why do they vote for Republicans instead of Libertarians?

No government program works as politicians say the program intends to work.

Democrats and Leftists

So, all you democrats and leftists have a problem with the President, the war, and just about anything else that Bush has had his hand in.  So what are your answers to the problems that we face.  You know answers…solutions.  I haven’t heard anything feasible or even worth listening to.  “Bush sucks…Bush is running this country into the ground…Bush is responsible for high gas prices…Bush is responsible for global warming…Bush is responsible for an illegitimate war…  Blah blah blah.  So what is your solution.  I have heard enough complaining by all parties,  what is your damn solution?  We don’t just pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan.  We have a lot at stake over there.

We have no business intervening in the affairs of other countries.  Period.

Here is my answer…we took the fight to them.  We have not had another attack in the U.S. since 9/11.  Where have they had attacks?  In other countries that don’t have the resolve to stomp terrorists like the cockroaches they are.

We also haven’t had an attack because Timothy McVeigh is no longer around.

Gas prices are high.  Do you know why?  It is because the leftists don’t want to do more drilling here in the U.S. and become more self-reliant.  Global warming, oh my goodness, don’t even get me started on that one.  There is no such thing.  Why don’t you talk to the people up north who pay outrageous prices for heating oil in the winter about global warming.

You’re almost correct.  It is the leftists’ fault for the most part, but mainly because of their push for alternative fuels has stopped gas companies from building refineries.

Oh yeah, Iraq.  Well let’s just say that for some reason, no one remembers the Nazi’s.  We have proof of mass burial sites.  We have proof that Saddam’s military was raping and torturing and killing innocent people.  He invaded Kuwait.  He released poison gas on the Curds.  We have proof that he was aiding and abetting terrorists.  We have proof of all those issues and we did something about it unlike the leftists who seem to think that Americans are the only people that deserve to live fruitful lives free of tyranny.

We have no proof that he was involved in 9/11 or had planned an attack on the United States.

Don’t get me started on Obama either.  He is an appeaser.  He thinks he can talk some sense into the Muslim extremists that would just as soon kill him as talk to him.  He thinks the rest of the world should like us.  Forget that.

What is your plan for peace?  “Kill them all?”

Our founding fathers came over here and started this nation knowing they would not be liked by their home country or its allies.  That is all.

Our forefathers wanted liberty and self-determination.  Both the Democrats and Republicans are stripping us of our rights and liberties every day.  Whether it is something like the “patRIOT Act” that looks more like something written from the Politboro than a freedom-loving legislative branch or the ever expansive layers of bureaucracy, both parties are assassinating American liberties and what it means to be an American.

Iraq (and why Democrats are Stupid)

The grassroots Democrats are against the war.  They made a strong showing in 2006 by ousting Republicans out of Congress and the Senate and making themselves the majority party.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided not to push through with impeachment hearings for President Bush and Vice-President Cheney.  Maybe lying about oral sex is a graver offense than killing tens of thousands in an illegal war.  (but I doubt it.)

The Democrats voted overwhelmingly to support the Patriot Act and many voted to fund for the war in Iraq.  Where I come from, if you are against something, you do NOT fund it.

Neither Hillary nor Obama will get us out of Iraq soon.  They are both members of the Council on Foreign Relations (an overwhelmingly pro-war organization)  Neither have a viable plan to lower the debt.  Both their proposals will add a minimum of $250 billion in debt every year.  And that’s not including the continuing funding of the war they’re both “against.”

The Surge (and why Republicans are Stupid)

The surge is going on six months. We are told the surge is working. We are told we should “stay the course.” I ask the following questions:

  • If the surge is so successful, why is it taking so long? Many epic battles have taken less time.
  • If the surge is so successful, why is presumptive Republican candidate John McCain optimistic he can get the troops out of Iraq by 2013?

The war is illegal and unconstitutional. Republicans claim they want “strict Constrictionists” in the courts, but a strict constrictionist would point out that Congress has to formally declare war. Authorization of force is not a declaration of war.

Many Republicans would be in favor of the war if the party leaders were to tell them that teal is a shade of red. They believe all the other lies they have been told.

Our country incurred $3.3 trillion in debt while President Bush worked with a Republican congress. Let’s assume that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost $1 trillion during this period. This leaves $2.3 trillion of deficit spending in six years. Republicans are LYING when they claim to be fiscally conservative. Tax cuts are one thing. Excessive spending without an ounce of fiscal discipline is another.
